The first will create a sitemap for a crawler bot with no other effort. The latter requires the following line top be present in the <head><\head> section of the site

This is the proper way of getting ‘crawled’ by Google. In fact, Google also provide a lot of helpful tips through this tool to aid your search discovery.
Alternative without verifying
It is also possible to submit a request for the google crawler to map the site through this form without any verification procedure. I did both.
